Claudette colvin
Today we look at heroes that paved the way for African Americans equality.
Martin Luther King jr., Jackie Robinson, Sourjourner Truth, Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X were just a very few of the many legends. Perhaps what we are taught in history class is not one hundred percent true, not because our teachers do it on purpose but because there are a few people who fought for civil rights who were not given praise for their unconditional effort.
Rosa Parks was said to be the first African American women that got blacks the right to sit where ever they pleased on public transportation. Rosa Parks is given props for her great achievement but further back in time their was a little 15 year old girl named Claudette Colvin who was born September 5th 1939 in Montgonery, Alabama. Claudette Colvin lived in the poorest part of Montgomery and though she faced racial tension she was a sweet, loving, and caring young lady. her first racial encounter was one day after school she was on her way home when the bus friver forced her to get out of her seat for another white passenger. Colvin refused and was arrested under alot of charges, because Colvin was just 15 her case was not fought. Both Rosa Parks and Claudette Colvin are greatly appreciated for their bravery and fight to srive for equality.
